about

Cinema Paradiso Volume 2 is the second volume (and our second release) of a single recording session we did back in 2018.
Cinema Paradiso! A new jazz trio initially founded on the joys of playing Paul Motian’s music, now taking the musical journey step by step beyond Motian to freely improvised spaces and freely associated standards. Cinema Paradiso is Kurt Van Herck (sax), Eric Thielemans (drums and percussion) and Willem Heylen (guitar).
Somewhere in the mid 90-ties Kurt and Eric played as a duo in and around Antwerp. Even at that time they played a music inspired by Motian’s repertoire, free jazz repertoire and romantic standards. 25 years later, this connection is picked up. As if time doesn’t exist, or at least seemingly so, nothing has changed as to the why of their shared musicanship. Willem joins in as if he always had been part of the unit. 2 becomes 3.
And more, because on the album one can hear Jozef Dumoulin playing the grand piano.
Cinema Paradiso, although a trio, wants to open up their space and invite musical friends.
